It's often said that the recruitment to recruitment (R2R) sector has worryingly poor standards, is crammed full of recruiters of little integrity, lacking in experience, and all too keen to take a fee without offering much of a service in return.
Every recruiter will have stories of an R2R supplier who has compromised their career search by cutting corners, sending CV's to clients without prior knowledge, harassing you for weeks about a particular role then dropping you like a hot potato when the job falls through and even lying to get you to that all important interview.
Of course it's not always like that but the responsibility is as much with candidates and clients as is it with R2R companies.
I'll often find myself apologising to a candidate for insisting on meeting them before agreeing to represent them to my client(s). It's just not expected but if you value your business, why not?
If I'm going to invest time and effort in a helping a candidate with their career progression then I want to know a little bit more about them. I want to understand their existing frustrations, talk about their concerns and plan their next move carefully, identifying the right role - and importantly the right employer - for them and their needs.
And all this costs me about an hour of my time and the price of a decent cup of coffee!
The benefits are clear; clients are happier to receive my CV's knowing the Recruitment Professionals I put forward will be worth the time spent in an interview, I can negotiate better fees and my rebate clause is rarely activated.
There are some very good Rec2Rec companies out there who will invest more than just a 15 minute phone call in your career or your business. They will listen to you and help you through the process of finding the right role for you, providing as much, or as little, assistance as you need.
All you have to do is find them, but when you do it's worth it - good luck!
