Five points to consider for a successful online recruitment strategy
Effective online recruitment surprisingly has very little dependences on the ever changing world of the internet but depends on the carful planning and the ability to forge a clear online recruitment strategy. The following pointers will help getting things in place when thinking about an online recruitment strategy
Point 1: Understand the vacancy.
Surprisingly many recruiters will work on trying to hire a candidate for a client without totally understanding what vacancy they are trying to fill. It's this fundamental oversight that can make the process more complicated that it needs to be and can waste unnecessary time working through unnecessary candidate response.
Getting as much information as possible from the client will assist you when you begin to build the all important job specification, the ‘job spec' as it is also known should contain all the information you or your client is looking for in a successful candidate.
Point 2: What your job advert should contain.
The feedback I have had from online recruitment job boards is that recruiters consistently fail in compiling an internet ready job advert. They say that recruiters don't put the required effort or information in the ad copy. It's important that for success in online recruitment that that there is enough information in the job advert for candidates to find the job but also make them want to apply once they read the advert. By spending more time on this important task will give you a far better chance in finding the right candidate. The days of cutting and pasting adverts are long gone.
It is essential to remember that you are writing a job advert and advertisements are all about selling, so sell the benefits of working for the company, sell any prospects, if you have a good salary to offer then sell that as well, by selling your opportunities you will undoubtedly give yourself a better chance of candidates applying to your ad rather than a similar role read our article on 'The Write way to fill more jobs'.
Point 3: Choose your job site
One method is simply type in the vacancy job title in Google then research the job boards that are on page one. Be sure to carry out proper checks by visiting the job board and check out things such as job board quality, cost of advert and relevant job seeker traffic if possible check what other sites the job board uses to drive job seeker traffic to the job vacancies. There are also websites such as what job site that has a list of job boards that meet professional criteria. There are also multipost job platforms such as recruitersite that offer job board bundles to cover professional, generalist and geographical job boards.
Point 4: Handling the Response.
It is very important to remember that there is nothing more frustrating for candidates than not knowing if their application they have posted using online recruitment has been received or checked. So make sure you respond to applicants within a day or 2 letting them know you've received their application and they are in the online recruitment process, also let them know you will get back in touch within a given time frame if they have been successful.
An excellent point to note about online recruitment advertising over print media is that if you are not getting the right calibre or number of applications to your job advert you can change the advert and add in more relevant key word, change the wording of the advert and look at what salary similar job roles have and see if you can match. And maybe also if possible look at posting it onto more sectors within the job it.
Liaise with your job board account manager. They know about online recruitment and they may be able to offer add on's such as email marketing your job role to candidates, remember they will be more than happy to help as if you get a good response and fill the job vacancy you will be a repeat customer
Point 5: Remain Professional
Overall online recruitment has some clear advantages over traditional recruitment methods and print media. It is important to remember that what ever size comapny you are it is still recruitment and you are in effect still dealing with members of the public all be it through online methods. Although online recruitment is quicker and cheaper than other methods you must have the correct processes in place from writing the advert through job board selection and professionally handling response, If you carryout these basic methods you will maintain and build and excellent brand you will undoubtedly have some success
