There comes a time when certain business ideas need to be put into action. The Recruitersite Project was one such idea.
Back in the spring of 2008, the realisation really started to hit home to Mark Jones and Scott Taylor that the world of recruitment was changing, fast. Quite simply, the recruitment industry was becoming more and more reliant on online media for advertising and steering away from offline activities.
Indeed, internet recruitment is the fastest growing and largest advertising sector. More than half of the UK population now use the web on a regular basis with an estimated around 6 million of these users looking towards job boards and CV tools for their next career move. No other medium comes close to giving anywhere near that sort of exposure to the potential job seeker.
Whilst carrying out some preliminary research regarding the cost impact of online recruitment advertising, it became clear after speaking to colleagues from the independent recruitment sector that, unless recruitment agencies purchased their advert space in bulk or had the type of business to be able to enter into lengthy contracts with job boards, there would be a huge difference between the independent recruiter and the ‘large group' who were using the top online media at a fraction of the cost of the SME recruitment companies. Nothing particularly new - it's always been the case that if you buy more of something you get it cheaper. What really stood out for Mark and Scott though was the difference in cost - sometimes as much as a few hundred pounds PER JOB CREDIT.
The importance of this realisation was the understanding that advertising is an essential part of any recruitment company's daily activity, so in effect the online shift in the recruitment world was going to widen the gap between the resources that a large recruiter has when compared to its SME counterpart.
It was then that the pair hatched a plan to bring the best resources to the independent recruiter through an all-purpose trade only platform and recruitersite.co.uk was born.
Over the next 18 months, with no road map to guide the newly formed recruitersite team, Mark and Scott, who have over three decades of recruitment experience between them, started to put together what was going to be a first for the recruitment industry - a tool that would give SME recruiters a real chance to compete with their larger rivals and get their cherished positions onto most of the top online media through a bespoke multi-post tool on a pay-as-you-go basis.
This meant sourcing the best talent in the UK web developing industry to work with them to build ‘something different'.
The first stage was to negotiate resale agreements with online media such as Reed, TMDR and CV-library. This was always going to be tough to achieve, but, armed with a firm belief that the SME industry needed a route to the online recruitment advertising market and after much negotiation, the support was eventually given.
The next step was to research and develop getting job adverts through to these boards in the best way possible and, more importantly, keep the control of the recruitment process firmly in the hands of the recruiter.
It gave the development team a mammoth task to get together with the various technical departments from the main media to build the bespoke multi-post tool as multiple posting is becoming a ‘must-have' tool for every recruiter. It is common knowledge that no single job board can consistently produce results and quite often vacancies need to be placed on multiple job boards (niche and generic) in order to return the right candidates to fill the position. Recruitersite needed an effective multi-post service which enabled a significant reduction in the time to post adverts to job boards and manage the response from one place but, unlike providers such as Broadbean and Idibu, the recruitersite multi-post tool needed to be included in the all-in-one cost with no external costs attached.
Advertising from the site had to be easy. Recruitersite settled on three advertising packages, starting with a seven site post to the top job search engines, a standard pack that could offer unrivalled postings to a further five premium sites and a professional addition that would give executive recruitment the ultimate job post to 13 sites, including The Ladders. Recruiters simply needed to select one of the advertising packages that best fitted their needs, input the job details, and the system would do the rest, posting to at least 7 job sites for one all inclusive price.
The final bits of the jigsaw were eventually slotted into place in April 2010 and, following extensive testing and market research of what ‘worked' in the online recruitment arena, recruitersite.co.uk was fully launched.
Whilst very simple to use, recruitersite is packed full of features including job board applicant tracking. It not only saves recruiter's time, money and resources, recruitersite.co.uk also gives agencies a competitive advantage and a very powerful recruiting tool. Above all, it helps narrow the divide between the large national recruitment companies and the SMEs.
Recruitersite.co.uk is the only site dedicated to servicing the needs and requirements of the UK recruitment industry. We have made it our mission to bring together the best performing online media in convenient multi-post packages, for one low cost, thus ensuring maximum exposure in the quickest time and at the best cost. What's more, recruitersite.co.uk is exclusive to recruitment agencies. Direct employers are not allowed to use the site.
